About

Lennart Brede is a contemporary artist based between Berlin and Portugal. His multidisciplinary practice explores identity, vulnerability and transformation, examining the fragile structures through which individuals and societies construct their sense of belonging, strength and continuity. Moving between image, moving image, sculpture, textile and installation, Brede investigates the relationship between representation and materiality. Familiar visual symbols are displaced, fragmented or transformed, opening up new interpretations of personal and collective experience. In works such as “ANGELS FALL“ and “ALLEZ GUT“, the human body, cultural memory and symbolic forms become sites of tension between protection and exposure, permanence and change. Rather than offering fixed narratives, Brede's work creates spaces in which familiar certainties can be questioned and alternative perspectives can emerge. Following an early exhibition with Peter Lindbergh, he expanded his work toward moving image and installation. The three-channel video installation “Angels Fall“ was recently presented at the Julia Stoschek Foundation. His art film “Der Weg“ was released via Grezgorzki Records (Alicia Kwade, Gregor Hildebrandt). His short film “Layla“ screened at international festivals and precedes his first feature film “Layla & Paul“, which is currently in development. A look at his portfolio reveals that he moves confidently between art, film, and video installation, as well as abstract photography—always with a distinctive visual signature.
